Workaholics Anonymous Book of Recovery WA World Services Organization 9780977194308 Books Reviews

  • This book is jam-packed - okay, reasonably packed as we would say in WA - with robust and nourishing recovery concepts. I am so grateful for the authors! Slogans, concepts, charts of characteristics of workaholic working vs healthy working. Soo good!
  • A must read for anyone struggling with over doing it. Incredible and extremely helpful.
  • This is a great book for handling stress at work and life, in general. It's helped me a lot this past year. Highly recommend!
  • Good ideas on how to achieve balance but you dont need a 12 step recovery book to recover. I liked the book Overdoing It by Bryan Robinson better
  • As far as recovery books go, this is almost as good as the Big Book
  • Written by recovering work addicts, for those who wish to change their lives, this book distills the wisdom, experience, strength, and hope that has been found by those who have adapted a 12 step approach to work addiction, compulsive worrying and work avoidance.

This program saved my life, and opened new doors to happiness and balance. This book reveals the tools and principles that make that possible.
  • much needed (!) But too busy to delve into it (!!!)
  • The Workaholics Anonymous Book of Recovery falls short in addressing root causes of work addiction. The fundamental problem with this book is that it neglects to examine if workaholism is the core problem or just a symptom of other deeper problems. The book does have good parts, especially the testimonial stories of affliction and recoveries people have experienced. The reader gets a good understanding of how work addiction affects different people and the impacts it can have. The problem is the one-size-fits all remedy stop working compulsively through the 12-step program. There are some things that human beings must do to stay alive, and working to earn your keep is one of them. Your passion for your work can take you great places and bring you great fulfillment if you preserve balance. Following the advice of this book might not help you get to your own root cause of what bothers you. An alternative, especially for those not willing to give up their dreams requiring hard work, is to work with a therapist to understand what's specifically ailing you and affecting your self-esteem. My experience with a therapist led her to recommend a different book more relevant to the underlying causes, and I made real changes that then helped me address work addiction.
