Summary of Five Presidents by Clint Hill with Lisa McCubbin | Includes Analysis Instaread Summaries 9781683783640 Books Reviews

  • Clint Hill was a Secret Service Agent from 1958 to 1975, part of the presidential security detail for presidents from Eisenhower to Ford. In this job, he was in a position to have inside knowledge of these five heads of state, as well as members of their family, far beyond what the general public is privy to. Since his medical retirement from the Secret Service, Hill has collaborated with author, Lisa McCubbin, to write several books about his experiences, among them Five Presidents, in which he shares some of his insider knowledge, and the challenges of providing presidential security.
Summary of Five Presidents by Clint Hill with Lisa McCubbin by Instaread is a comprehensive analysis of the book, with snippets of inside information about each president, and an overview of Hill’s career and his personal sacrifices, such as the trauma he suffered as one of the protective agents on the scene of JFK’s assassination. This 15-minute summary is an excellent way to get an inside look at new books before making the decision to buy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
  • This Instaread summarizes an excellent book by Clint Hill, a Secret Service agent who served 5 presidents from Eisenhower to Ford. I bought HIll's full book as I was very interested to read about these historical figures from someone who was there with them everyday.

This Instaread summary covers the major events in Hill's experience and provide a keen insight into what Hill saw and experienced. Having read the book, Hill was there for key events including Kennedy's assassination, Johnson's decision not to seek a second term, Nixon's resignation, and Ford rising from Congressman to president in a matter of months.

I received this Instaread in exchange for an honest review and highly recommend it as a stand-alone read, or as a companion to the full book.
  • Not eorth the cost. Similar to the old "Cliff Notes."
  • This was definitely not the type of book I would normally pick up, and I'm very glad to have read it in summary form.

    It covers

Hill as Secret Service agent. The difficulties of the job, either because presidents kept putting themselves in danger (greeting large crowds is part of the job) or because the president is being an idiot (Johnson dressed Hill up in ranch clothes knowing it would make Hill uncomfortable, merely because he had the power to do so).

Hill as family man, whose family relationships suffered because of the job. A frightening quote is, "During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Hill had to face the fact that in the event of a nuclear holocaust, he would be expected to move to the bunkers to protect the president while his own family would die."

Hill as associate to the president and his family, the relationships between them (Kennedy invited him to play touch football with the family, while Eisenhower didn't even know his name).

Given the described style of the original, this one might work better in summary.

  • This is an overview of the actual book “Five Presidents.“ Kind of like an abbreviated ‘Cliff's Notes’ for the FULL book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding the book’s content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book. The author is a former 'secret service staff member' for presidents Eisenhower through Ford. His book relates the experiences and several homilies anecdotes about life as an SS Agent and the presidents he protected. At .99 cents, this summary is a good value, which is one of the reasons I have personally found “Instaread” to be a useful service.
