Dishonored The Dunwall Archives Bethesda Games Arkane Studios 9781616555627 Books Reviews
- Over 100 pages of sheer amazing, great art, and an intimate look at Dishonored from a macroscopic point of view.
I am a HUGE fan of Dishonored, a game where there is literally more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. I was THRILLED to hear that the Dunwall Archives existed- and even more eager to get a copy of it on kindle as it was cheaper.
This book pulls no punches, and as a game that's literally all about perspective, it's book opens up thoughts you never got to expand upon in-game. Brilliant, beautiful, and very well worth my money. But I AM talking about the kindle edition here, so it's time to get to the reasons why it's not a 5-star. Dunwall archives, I fear is not properly formatted for kindle, for reasons that in one way or another wouldn't have been too bad on their own, but together it would likely have been worth it to buy it hardcover.
For starters, the table of contents is very limited in it's use. The pages themselves are noted without any indication of the story or picture, and it makes the book a little unwieldy if you're looking for something specific. On top of that there are many cases where the size of text on the pages is so small that it becomes a chore to read for those of us who need glasses. It wasn't that bad, I guess, but it is something that I -with nearly perfect vision- noted. But the coup de grace which made me go; "Should'a shipped", was that some of the names on the beginning pictures are improperly zoomed-in-on, which leaves half of the name cut off the page in one way or another.
As a longtime fan of the series begging for the second game to come out already, this didn't detract that badly to my experience. In fact, the book was more than my money's worth- but it would have definitely been worth the extra chunk of cash to get it hard-copy, and I fear my particular affinity for the series has made me biased despite all this. - I've only just flipped through it so far, but I can already tell what an awesome book this is. It starts off with a timeline which really brought a few things to light that I can't wait to learn about as I go through! Every time I play a Bethesda game I swear I'm going to do a playthrough where I actually read all the in game books and notes, and every time I find that to be the last thing I want to do when I'm sneaking around at the edge of my seat in suspense. This is a fantastic idea for people like me who want to know the lore but would rather keep my reading time separate from my gaming time. The book looks and feels good, the images are sharp and attractive. I can't wait to dive in!
- With the release of the Dishonored 2 artbook - which is fantastic - It was unfortunate that the Dunwall Archives was mostly just a collection of the lore pieces from the first game. It is well put together, a very fun thumb through. This is a typical coffee book table though - just for geeks and fans of the series.
If you are expecting an artbook, it does have artwork in it but stuff that was easily accessible on forums and press sites.
I do recommend it if you are a super fan though, perfect for any Dishonored collection. - Concept art is paired with texts from the books you find in the game, so if you usually read books in-game, you'll have already read this book. The art is nice, the presentation is nice, it's nice to have a thematic book, but it feels like it's cobbled out of existing game assets rather than bringing anything new to a fan hoping to learn more - whether about the world or the art or the production. It's nice... but there's just not a lot to get your teeth into.
- Incredibly high quality cover and pages along with timelines, maps, and many interesting sides of the word of Dishonored yet to be explored. Explanations of the other lands of the empire, characters not touched upon much, and the history of everything from the overseers to birthdates. An amazing guide for anyone who loves the world set in front of them in Dishonored.
- I had been wanting this book for a long time, and now that I finally have it, I'm in love with it. The artwork is gorgeous, it was one of the things that stuck with me even after I finished the game, and having it all compiled in this book is fantastic. The lore and excerpts were great, I absolutely love the world of Dishonored. It's one of my favorite games ever, and this book is a true gem that I am delighted to have on my shelf. I'm even more excited for Dishonored 2 now! I NEED IT!!
5 glowing stars. - This book is amazing! Lot of artwork and insight into the world of Dishonored. A compilation of lore and art form the Dishonored universe for any hardcore fan. Great quality pages and images. Would highly recommend. I would note the book size is slightly smaller than average.
- The book came earlier than expected so I am very happy about that. It is also in good condition just as described. In regards with the book content, it is not exactly a art book but it gives you a more in depth view of the world of Dishonored. Still it showcases different art of characters and places in the game, I am totally satisfied with my purchase.
